3D Art
When did I start at 3D?
What are my sources of inspiration?
What are you strong points?
How important are sketches, drawings, ... to my artworks?
Do I have everything clear in your mind when I start 3D model or does it develop as I move on?
Are there any artists I am particularly admire?
About my professional experience
What are my future plans?
I have degrees in Mathematics and Information Technology and I did my first contact with CG in 1999. Back than I started an intensive animation training among other dozen people who supposed to be hired by a German CG company which opened a studio in my town. In a very short period of time 10 of us started the production. I think that - like most 3D graphics designers - what I know I haven’t learned at any school. I can say I am a self-taught person. I learned 3D myself using the trial and error method. Further, there was some advice from other graphics designers, reviewers, tutorials, etc. I also try to draw many technical matters and practices from books and magazines. Simply, I look for inspiration wherever possible...Since the year 1999 I began to devote myself thoroughly to professional work on 3D and CG. I was amazed and from that point computer graphics becomes my favorite hobby besides all things which people in that age are usually doing. My background helped me a lot in my learning process though.
My feelings, experience, memories, people, places, weather, pictures, movies, music... everything, everything what is influencing my life has an influence on my work because life it self is one big inspiration to make things someway somehow.
I don't focus on particular part of CG. I'm using 3d programs as tools to create my work as they are. If I need to do modeling I do modeling etc. I like to know as much as possible about each part of CG. From previsualization trough modeling, texturing, rigging, shading, animation, lighting, rendering, compositing to final color grading. But if I have to choose my favorite part then I say modeling, texturing and rigging. As I’m also photographer, I have a good background in composition and lighting.
This helps a lot, it is the first step to figure out the picture I have in mind, it gives me a good idea of the composition that I want, how I’ll frame the scene, It helps me also to know where I’ll put the efforts… I make simple pre-sketches, in which I capture the idea and then I can develop it some further. Design sketching and concepts of prospective scene help me getting the project organized in my head. Working in 3D is much easier then and I can focus only on the technique and details.
Yes. Owing to pre-sketches, colour outlines and notes I usually have quite a concrete image of the final result at the beginning already. Of course, in the course of making I finish details. Sometimes I try new techniques etc... It is especially with free production that I devote more time to preparing and to studies of the scene/animation. If I make sufficient notes of an idea, it is much easier to suspend working on it and get back to it later to finish it.
To be honest, I don’t know. Each is different. I have no "top artist".
I started working for film industry doing TV serials, TV commercial spots, serial movies, most of the time as an intern worker . I started as modeler and from there I tried everything. I have been working for a while as rigger, and texture artist, lighting and rendering person, even compositing artist. I also used to train other people and be a Maya teacher for a while. Later on I switched to gaming wishing to have more technical challenges in my job. Company I worked for: Ubisoft Vancouver, Electronic Arts- Burnaby, Calibre Digital Pictures –Toronto, Spin Production – Toronto, Maxsys Bucharest,Tiny Creatures Brasov, Bravo Studio Bucharest.
To specialize some more in 3D graphics. To continue to teach others and learn from others. To work on my own projects. To work with a team of people who care about common creation. To do everything in a way which would make me feel good. First of all, however, to live and enjoy life with people whom I like, to travel and to try to give something over to others.
